I began taking photos with a film camera in 2019. In a sense, I am relatively new to photography, film, analog process, and art in general. My first camera was a Praktica. Gifted to me by my father, this camera had once belonged to his sister, Elizabeth. She passed away before I was born and this camera is one way I maintain a connection to my aunt I never met.
Since I shot my first roll of film on that camera I developed a great interest in old cameras, film, darkroom printing, alternative process printing, and exploring art through tactile, experimental, and historical technologies.
My main medium is darkroom printing. I love taking photos on film, but the greatest joy of the photography process for me is seeing the image come to life in the developing bath in the darkroom.
I don’t just make photos though. I love all art mediums. I paint, I draw, I sew, I collage, I write. I like to use interesting processes to make interesting images.
